Electra Glide Classic
Kuralt for the Florida Keys was a 1999
Harley-Davidson
Electra Glide Classic I rented from the late, great Iron Horse
Rentals. A massive bike, this has everything you'd find in a small
car. Within finger's touch are a tape deck, AM/FM radio with treble/bass
adjustment, weather band, treble, modes, clock, horn, turn signals.
There's a volt meter, air and oil pressure gauges, running lights,
and easy to read fuel gauge. Master this and you're a shoo-in
for the world thumb wrestling championship.
The hard bags (saddle and trunk) are also large, the styling is fine, the footrests are wide, and seat is so comfortable you'd be tempted to string a hammock. In fact, there's so much power to spare that if you're used to riding you may be a bit disappointed that the bike does most of the riding for you. After a hundred miles, the bike is still skimming easily down the road removing you from the elements and the challenge of riding. It's not the bike's fault -- this is a well-tuned piece of machinery -- but if you're ready for a long ride and feeling the environment, look for a bike that's less well dressed.
